TRACEY ROSS! LOVING YOU TOO!

tracey ross/face value book party, los angeles, 24 July 2008

After the Book Soup reading, Nico Golfar drove me up to Tracey Ross’s store in Sunset Plaza in his old Bentley which has a special bottom-warming button on it (I am serious).  Just as I was walking in, late, to my own party, how fashionable is that, Cat Deeley was leaving, but bless her, she came back inside and we had a chat and someone took our picture together, and then someone else stuck a book in her hand and took the picture again.  She promised to read it while on holiday.

Cat Deeley at Face Value book party, Tracey Ross

Tracey Ross owns one of LA’s coollest boutiques - she sells one of my favourite labels Mayle, as well as vintage accessories and hard to find surf books.  We’d never met before, but she very kindly hosted a party for me after the Book Soup launch, complete with Crumbs cup cakes and champagne.  Tracey is your quintessential LA surf chick only with better sartorial awareness.  I’m not sure if she’s ever been a surfer, but she has that fresh, natural glow I’ve spent many a summer writing about - you know,  how to achieve it with a swish of Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Brick and a little Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Balm.  Had a quick chat with Raj Kanodia, one of Beverly Hill’s most famous plastic surgeons.  I had interviewed him years ago, before the idea for Face Value was even born, when I was contemplating writing a history of plastic surgery.

E! was there, as was People magazine and the website Hautelook. Big thanks to Jill Eistenstadt-Chayet and Lisa Forst from BluPRint who organised everything so brilliantly…

Quote of the night: “I love Europe. You have so much history there.”
