testing 1,2,3… REVLON Nail Enamel in Tropical Temptation
January 21st, 2009Oh my goodness I can feel a big old moan coming along. And really there’s no reason for it besides the fact that it is JANUARY and it’s grey and cold… no, wait! Is that the sun? And a patch of blue sky? That’s the only excuse I need to ditch the black Gap trousers I have lived in all winter and put on a er… black skirt (but it’s a start, right?) and apply a little colour to my toe-nails.
If nude is my favourite shade for finger tips, then coral is my favourite colour for toes. But you want one that pops, which is why I love this shade (093 Tropical Temptation) by Revlon which was sent to me the other day. A word of warning: any brightly coloured polish needs a little more care and attention when applying it yourself. The nice people from Revlon send me emails every month asking me to pop down to their nail open days where they have a team of manicurists to tend to the nails of all the beauty editors. But somehow the time is never right for me, and I can’t make the appointment, besides which with a shade like coral I want it on my toes and they don’t do feet.
Why do I love coral? It’s wonderfully bright and optimistic, a touch on the cheesy side, and toe nails I think should always have a bit of a sense of humour about them. Coral takes me away from this world and to my favourite hotspots: Mexico, Bali, Panama (I’ve never actually been to Panama, but one day). I’d love this colour as a blusher, but it’s hard to find. Stila did it once years ago. I don’t imagine it sells particularly well as it’s a colour that women are afraid of, but try it, you’d be amazed how it warms up the skin, brings a youthful brightness to a face.
As for my toes… I tried two coats, without an undercoat. Mistake. It needs an undercoat, and possibly three coats, as the polish goes on a little bit streaky over my big toes. But the colour is superb.
I’ve tried to photograph it looking as totally tropical as I can, but what with my son’s Lego in the background and my feet, well, you’ll have to use your imagination I’m afraid.
Marks out of five? Hmm… I’d say 3.5 - I’d mark it higher if it didn’t go on quite so streaky on my big toes. The colour however is exceptional.
Revlon Nail Enamel in 093 Tropical Temptation , from £6.16, is available from Boots and Superdrug now.

Stumbled upon your page, because I’ve been searching for this Revlon Tropical Temptation you speak of, and I havn’t been able to find it! I’ve settled for Pretty in Papaya instead… Because I coudln’t find it, I googled Tropical Temptation to see whether it was a specific shade, or a line of shades… Now I know! Anyways, do you have a specific base coat to suggest???
