Star facialists, and vain stars (not) - today in the Sunday Times Style magazine

February 16th, 2009

Two features by me today in the Sunday Times Style magazine: one on two amazing facialists, Sarah Chapman and Kate Somerville; and then a smaller feature on Nicola Clarke, who is probably the best hair colourist in London.  Feel very lucky to have visited them - Nicola on several occasions.

The article about celebrities with the small story on Nicola tagged along at the end, asked the question, is Kate Winslet vain?   Scroll right to the end of Shane’s piece, and it’s there, with an ending that’s not quite what I wrote. Newspapers like an “angle” on everything, that’s why they changed my copy to include their view-point at the very end, in the last four words, implying that “we” haven’t made up our minds. I’ve come to accept changes - reluctantly -  as an occupational hazard.

But is it vain to take an interest in the way you look when you’re standing in front of an audience of hundreds, which in turn is being screened to thousands, millions of tv-viewers?  Er… no, surely!

What’s your definition of vain?

Maybe mine should be worrying too much about those last four words of copy..
